Identification and Registration of Bovines
- Notification of Births and Deaths EN | MT
- Every time that a bovine is born on farm or die on farm, the farmer must notify our Directorate within 7 days.
- This form is necessary so that bovine’s traceability is kept as per laws and regulations.
- It is imperative that all bovine producers inform the Directorate with all births/deaths on farm.

Microchipping Section
The microchipping unit is responsible for the management, control of registration and identification of pets mainly dogs and horses. The unit is also responsible for the registration of dogs that fall under the Legal notice 199 of 2011 and it stated that all dogs in Malta need to be microchipped and registered. The Unit is also responsible for the transfer record of dogs and horses and the notification of death of the said animals. The section is also responsible for the issuing of Equine Passports.
- Report of Missing Pets EN | MT
- Through this application form an applicant can report a missing dog or cat.
- The microchipping section will notify all veterinarians, clinics and sanctuaries after receiving the notification.
- When/If the pet is found the owner will be notified to be able to reunite with the pet.

Swine Section
- Application for License to Rear Swine EN | MT
- The intended keeper is to be approved as such after applying for a licence to Rear swine
- Persons applying must be 18 years or over.
- The breeder will be included in the Directorate’s Database after the necessary inspections will be carried out, and a registration number will be assigned
- Eid is needed to be able to apply online

- If permission is granted, then a fee of €25.00 payable by cheque to the AHWD is required every beggining of the year for the licence.

- Licence to keep Swine as Pet EN | MT
Apart from the swine farming, Swine may also be kept as a pet on the following conditions:
- The intended keeper is to be approved as such after applying for a licence to keep swine as a pet;
- Swine shall be identifiable by a microchip inserted beneath the skin of the left ear by a warranted veterinarian;
- There may be no more than two swine on one site and no more than one swine shall be kept per person;
- Swine are only to be moved from approved sites with the prior approval of the Director except for emergency veterinary visits which are to be confirmed as such in writing by the veterinarian attending to the swine kept as a pet;
- Male swine shall be rendered surgically sterile through castration;
- Breeding of swine by keepers is prohibited;
- Persons applying for a licence to keep swine as pet shall be eighteen (18) years old or over and able to take charge of a swine kept as pet. Any person convicted of offences against the Animal Welfare Act shall be forbidden from keeping a swine or applying for a keeper licence;
- The Directorate shall be notified within seven (7) days from when any licensed swine kept as pet dies;
- The Directorate shall be notified within forty-eight (48) hours by a keeper in the case of the loss of a licensed swine kept as pet though an appropriate means of notification as may be stipulated by the Director from time to time;
- Carcasses of swine kept as pets shall never enter the foodchain or otherwise be used for human or animal consumption. Said carcasses are to be disposed of in terms of EU Regulation No. (EC) 1069/2009;
- Feeding of table scraps/swill to swine is strictly prohibited.

- A declaration of the microchip application and the castration of the pig if it is a male by a warranted veterinarian, must be submitted together with the application.
- A fee of €35 is to be paid by cheque to AHWD at the office were a receipt is issued (If application is sent online or by post, the cheque must be sent also by post)
- Duration of the approval is of 15 days from the submission of the application to the approval of the application.

- The intended keeper is to be approved as such after applying for a Poultry Farm
- Persons applying must be 18 years or over.

- With this application the applicant will be entitled to legally keep and be responsible for the dangerous animals you their custody
- Individuals resident in Malta can apply.
- A site inspection is carried out to verify that the place is adequate for the keeping of this kind of animals

- This application enables food business operators that require an approval under Article 3 of Regulation EC 853/2004, to start the process of approval of their establishment.
- The Food business operators will be inspected and if found compliant with the relevant legislation will obtain an approval number to their establishment and the activity can operate, and the product can be placed in the EU market.

- The form provided is to be filled by applicants interested in the starting of any animal feed related activity, or if the applicant is already performing such an activity to be registered as a feed business operator.

- Anyone who is already performing this operation shall apply to regulate the position of the business within the Veterinary Regulation Directorate.

- All farmers that are registered to perform on farm mixing of feed and would like to stop this type of procedure are to advise the Directorate via this application.

- Pets Accompanying Persons EN | MT
- This is a pre notification that an owner of a pet must fill in to notify the Veterinary Regulation Directorate of an arrival of a pet and stating that the pet will be accompanied by someone else not him/her. This form is important to be filled so that the pet will be inspected on the arrival for into Malta. the pet must fulfil the health requirements that are listed in regulation 576/2013
- Any pet owner shall notify the department in order to enter the owner of the pet need to make sure that his pet has:
- A microchip
- A rabies vaccine at 12 weeks of age
- A pet passport
- 21 days must pass prior entering to Malta
- Between 24 hr to 120 hrs the pet will need a health examination and in case of a dog it will need the de worming

- Derogation form Antibody Titration Test EN | MT
- This declaration is needed by the owner to inform the Competent Authorities that the pet will remain within the secure means of transport during transit or with the perimeter of the airport with the pet and the pet did not have contact with any other animals
- The test is listed in regulation 576/2013
- This form needs to be filled if the transit during transportation will occur in a county with high risk of Rabies
