Eligibility
The application for Free Vet Services Scheme is only open to licensed Animal Sanctuaries in line with Subsidiary Legislation 439.14 or Voluntary Organisations operating a Horse Shelter which are duly enrolled with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations under the Voluntary Organisations Act (Chapter 492).
Any transfers/adoptions are to be reported to the VRD as per applicable legislations. If, upon visit by the Animal Welfare Directorate, any NGO is found to be in breach of such condition, the Directorate reserves the right to withhold the payment and take action in line with CAP 439 – Animal Welfare Act.
The legal person of the Sanctuary is the person who registered the sanctuary under SL 439.14 – Minimum Standards for Animal Sanctuaries Regulations.
Payment Rates
A one-time payment shall be effected on the basis of an average of three (3) onsite readings carried out.
The rates payable shall be:
• €45 per annum per dog or cat;
and
• €180 per horse.
Such payments may be issued pro-rata if the animals found on-site through a random or total headcount check do not match those applied for. The Directorate shall carry out a full headcount of the animals onsite.
Payment will be undertaken pro-rata only for those animals duly registered on the National Livestock Database (NLD).
