Production of olive oil
The olive oil sector in Malta has old origins and although being small, local farmers produce distinct olive oil, which is appreciated in the local market and by foreigners alike. In this regard, several olive mills were approved, for the production of Olive Oil, whereby such registration is necessary for the required monitoring and controls of this product. The aim of the Agriculture Directorate is to ensure traceability of olive oil products on the local market and strengthen the consumers' confidence in Maltese Olive products.
Objective
The traceability system adopted by the Directorate is to account for olive growers and olive oil producers. Such system requires for the identification and registration of olive groves. Furthermore a traceability system is to established and monitored by the Directorate that follows through the olive oil processors.
• Olive Growers

The registration of olive groves Reġistrazzjoni tas-Siġar taż-Żebbuġ these can be done through dedicated eforms or directly at the Agri-Connect Front Office. Olive growers must submit by the 31st December of each year a duly signed and completed harvest declaration on the prescribed form . The declaration must be accompanied by copies of original receipts showing the amount of olives sold or delivered to individual olive oil producers.

1. Yearly application for the licence to produce olive oil Liċenzja Kummerċjali għall-Produzzjoni taż-Żejt taż-Żebbuġa such application for certification can be compiled on the dedicated eforms or submitted directly to one of the Agri-Connect Offices.
